We are looking for families willing to house a service dog-in-training in their homes! Don’t worry if you don’t have extensive dog training experience, because PGI will be there every step of the way to answer your questions.
Puppy Raiser- Level 1: Open to all first time volunteers. They will have a puppy anywhere from 4-6 months and focus on the basic foundations needed for a service dog. The puppy raiser can complete training for public access.
Puppy Raiser- Level 2: Must have successfully trained a PGI dog and be approved by a PGI staff vote. This puppy raiser is not required to attend training classes so may live out of state. They may have the puppy anywhere from 4-12 months.
Transitional Trainer: Open to first time volunteers. They will take a dog after it has completed the Helping Paws program (cell dog) and focus on transition training in the community.
Foster Home: Will train a service dog puppy start to finish. Must have successfully trained a service dog in the past and be appointed by PGI staff vote. They will have the dog 12-24 months. Weekly class required.
